50 Fans on Facebook and Gift Certificates

I made a goal for myself to get 50 fans on my Facebook page and I did it! I'm really happy about it. I'm getting more in to using Facebook to promote my shop. Feel free to add Move the Needle as a fan if you're not already. You'll get updated on new products and sales. I also set it up so my Facebook updates automatically repost to my Twitter.

Etsy added a new official "My Etsy" application where you can see items in your Etsy shop right on your Facebook fan page or profile. If you go to my Facebook page, you can click the "My Etsy" tab on top and it will take you there. I think it's a great feature and I've been wanting to see a feature like this for a while. You can also see links to my most recent blog posts there on there.

I decided to add gift certificates to my shop, listed as items instead of just saying I offer them. I asked on Twitter if people thought gift certificates work in individual shops and I got some mixed answers. Somebody said it wouldn't hurt to try though and I thought it'd be fun to include them. These are great for the holiday season if you don't know what to pick out for someone. You can get them for $10, $20, $30 or $50 here. If you look at each certificate, I listed a different photo of a type of item in each one. I tried to make it so each number can correspond to a type of item in my shop - like $10 you can buy greeting cards, $20 you can get a mini journal, etc. Here's what they look like:

The light blue part (besides the web address) is filled out to correspond with each certificate. Let me know what you think of gift certificates. Would you buy one from Move the Needle or another Etsy shop? I'm not sure if I'd buy them personally because I like the process of picking out a certain item for someone, but I like having them as an option. It'd be nice if Etsy offered gift certificates for the whole site.

If you're still looking for Thanksgiving items, you can see my Thanksgiving items here. I don't think any of them will sell before Thanksgiving, but you never know. I also have Christmas cards in my shop. I just noticed I don't have any New Year's cards. I might make a couple and post them before December. I have a 2010 Calendar though which is good to give as a gift for the holiday season.
