How to Organize Blog Posts in 10 Steps

How to Organize Blog Posts

Do you run a blog? One way to keep a blog running smoothly is to organize blog posts. These are some quick tips on how to stay productive and organized in the blogging world.

  1. Keep an editorial calendar. It will help keep your plan professional and organized.
  2. Keep your sidebar clean. Have an image of yourself, a brief about section and some buttons to categories or pages on your site. Don’t overload with widgets here.
  3. Speaking of categories, have just five to ten categories to put blog posts in. Label every post your publish. I don’t use tags, but you might find them helpful.
  4. Have clear blog pages separate from posts. Get a lot of questions? Have an FAQ page. Want to direct new readers to old posts? Create a Start Here page. Want to make money? Add a Sponsor page.
  5. Add a couple images to each blog post. Make sure they are high quality and some use text. Make all images the same width and fill in the ALT tag to help with SEO. You should also keep the image file name the same name as the post.
  6. Get rid of spam comments or completely turn off comments if they bother you. Reply to comments when you can.
  7. Edit or delete old blog posts. Put all blog posts in to categories. Add some updates or photos to old blog posts to make theme relevant and delete posts that no longer fit with your blog. I have blog posts from 2008 and I am trying to keep them all organized and updated.
  8. Use a feed reader to keep track of other blogs you read. Favorite blog posts you want to link or mention on your blog. Follow my blog with Bloglovin or Feedly.
  9. Create a plan for promoting your blog. Write a daily checklist
  10. Backup your blog just in case. I have IFTTT auto save blog posts to Google Drive. I also use Updraft for WordPress. Both are free to use.

I have a free printable for you!

If you liked this post, I am writing an eBook all about blogging called Your Thread of Thought. It is similar to my other eBook, Needle and Thread, but it is filled with business tips just for bloggers instead of Etsy sellers. I will let you know when it releases.
