Tell a Fairytale Day

Did you know today is Tell a Fairytale Day? Tell a Fairytale Day is a day to celebrate the magic and wonder of fairytales. There are many ways you can celebrate. Here are some ideas:

  • Try reading or listening to your favorite fairytales. You can even try finding new ones from different cultures. You can find many fairytales online for free, at the library in books or even in podcasts.

  • Tell or write your own fairytales, using your imagination and creativity. You can use prompts, such as “Once upon a time…”, “In a faraway land…”, or “There was a princess who…” to get started. See this blog post for ideas on writing your own fairytale.

  • Dress up as your favorite fairytale character or create your own costume. You can find many costumes on Etsy.

  • Watch or play fairytale themed movies, shows, or games. You can find many adaptations and interpretations of fairytales in various media, such as Disney, Shrek, or The Witcher.

  • Make fairytale inspired crafts, such as bookmarks and greeting cards. Try looking on Pinterest for ideas or I can do a separate blog post about it if you want.

The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the power of storytelling. Writing your own fairytale can be a fun and creative way to express yourself and tell a story. You can use your imagination and inspiration from other fairytales to create your own unique and magical tale. Here are some steps to help you write your own fairytale:

Choose a theme for your fairytale. A theme is the main idea or message that you want to convey in your story. It can be something like love, courage, friendship or justice. Think about what you want your readers to learn or feel from your fairytale. I am writing a fairytale about a fairy that causes mischief to other fairytale characters. I haven't decided ho wit is going to end yet since I am still writing it.

Create your main characters. Your fairytale should have at least one hero or heroine, who is the protagonist of the story, and one villain, who is the antagonist of the story. You can also have other characters to add to your story to make it more interesting such as sidekicks or helpers. I added a huntsman, who is neither a hero or a villian, in my story to make it more interesting. Give your characters names, personalities and appearances. You can also give them some special abilities or traits, such as magic, talking animals or curses.

Decide on a setting for your fairytale. A setting is the time and place where your story happens. You can choose a realistic or a fantastical setting. For example, you can set your fairytale in a medieval castle, a modern city or a magical forest. In my fairytale, the setting is Fairytale Woods which is a magical forest where mischief happens. You can also add a palace which is great for events such as a ball or dance.

Write an outline for your fairytale. Write an outline to help you organize your ideas and structure your plot. You can use the following outline as a guide:

Introduction: Introduce your main characters, setting, and theme. You can also start with a hook, a sentence that grabs the reader’s attention and makes them want to read more.

Problem: Present the main problem or conflict that your hero or heroine faces. This can be caused by the villain, a curse, a mistake, or a personal flaw. The problem should be challenging and interesting for your hero or heroine to solve.

Rising action: Show how your hero or heroine tries to solve the problem, and how the villain or other obstacles make it harder for them. You can also add some twists and turns, such as surprises, secrets, or betrayals, to make your story more exciting.

Climax: Show the most intense and important moment of your story, where your hero or heroine faces the villain or the problem head-on. This is where your hero or heroine either succeeds or fails, and where the outcome of the story is decided.

Resolution: Show how
