Hot cocoa is great to warm up by the fire on a cold winter day.
Fun Toppings for Hot Cocoa Bar:
Mini marshmallows – we like the dehydrated ones
Homemade or gourmet marshmallows
Holiday-themed marshmallows
Candy cane sticks or mini candy canes
Peppermint chips
Chocolate spoons (shown below)
Mini chocolate bars or other small candies
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar or other sweetener (depending on how sweet you like it)
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup soymilk or coconut milk (can use any milk substitute or any combination of milk, half-and-half or cream)
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Whisk together the cocoa, sugar, salt, and about 2 tablespoons milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until cocoa and sugar are dissolved.
2. Whisk in the rest of the milk and heat it over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until it is hot. Stir in the vanilla and serve.
3. Add your favorite toppings such as mini marshmallows, candy cane sticks or chocolate spoons.
