How to Celebrate Record Store Day 2025 Like a Pro

April 12, 2025 is officially Record Store Day, and whether you’re a seasoned crate-digger or just discovering the charm of vinyl, this unofficial music holiday is a beautiful way to support independent shops and rediscover the joy of physical music.

A few weeks before RSD, I downloaded the official release list and circled my top 10 must-haves. This year featured some incredible exclusive drops—hello, Taylor Swift’s Fortnight white vinyl, a rare Cure picture disc, and Post Malone’s Nirvana tribute.

Tip: Print the list or save it in your phone’s notes app with a little priority ranking. Don’t go in blind—it gets overwhelming fast!

I’m not one to camp out overnight, but this year I showed up at 6:30 AM and still wasn’t the first in line. Many collectors are serious—and some releases are gone within minutes. I brought a chair, coffee, snacks, and a portable charger to survive the wait.

The store I visited (shoutout to [Local Record Shop Name]) opened at 8 AM with music, donuts, and good vibes. There’s something magical about standing in line with fellow vinyl lovers and swapping stories.

When the doors opened, we were let in small groups at a time. I had my wishlist ready and a budget in mind—though I’ll admit, I blew it the moment I spotted that deluxe reissue I didn’t know I needed until I saw it.

Some tips from the trenches:

Stick to your budget (or at least pretend to).

Respect the one-copy-per-title rule.

Be kind—there’s plenty of music joy to go around.

Many record stores host live performances, DJs, or local bands during RSD. After shopping, I stuck around, chatted with the store owner, and listened to a killer local jazz group. You don’t just leave with music—you leave with memories.

Don’t panic if you missed a release. In the following days, leftovers often pop up online through official shop websites or Discogs.

Record Store Day isn’t just about vinyl—it’s about connection. To music. To community. To the tangible experience of flipping through records and rediscovering albums you love (and some you’ve never heard of).

Whether you scored big or just went for the vibes, RSD is a reminder that music is meant to be shared, celebrated, and cherished. Quick Checklist:

[ ] Monitor release list + highlight top picks

[ ] Call local stores for event details

[ ] Pack for early arrival (food, water, charger, comfy gear)

[ ] Bring a handwritten wishlist

[ ] Team up with friends for better odds

[ ] Enjoy the music, events, and community

[ ] Explore leftover stock online or continue supporting local shops

Why it matters: RSD isn’t just about grabbing rare vinyl—it’s about celebrating the culture of independent record stores, enjoying community energy, supporting artists and engaging with music in a tactile, curated way  .
