New Year’s Resolution Tutorial: Fitness Jar

New Year’s Resolution: Get Fit

There are many ways to encourage yourself to workout more in the new year. Having a cute craft can help you reach your goal. Try making this fitness jar filled with workout ideas. The way this fitness jar works is you pull out one or a couple pieces of paper every time you want to work out. You do whatever you wrote down on the slips of paper.

Supplies:

  • Jar or Box: You can use any jar or box you have.
  • Colored Paper: Use colored paper in various different colors. You can also use post it notes.
  • Scissors or Paper Cutter: Use scissors or a paper cutter to cut out the pieces of paper.
  • Pen or maker
  • Decorations (optional): This is optional, but you can add decorations to your jar such as glitter, ribbon or images.

Instructions:

1. Start by cutting your colored paper in to strips that are about 1/2″ width. Cut the strips to your desired length. You want them long enough to fold them.

2. Now write down some workout ideas or moves with pen or marker. For each color, write down a different type of workout idea. For example, pink paper might mean cardio and yellow might mean stretching. You can write down full workout ideas, such as swimming or biking, or more specific workouts such as "Do 10 pushups" or "Do downward dog yoga pose". It just depends on how you think and what will make you workout more. If you do more specific workout moves, you might want to pull out more than one when you use your jar and create a full workout with the different moves.

3. Label your jar or box with the marker if you wish. You can decorate the jar or box however you like such as with inspiring cut outs from magazines or glitter. You might want to tie a nice ribbon on the lid to make it something you want to open each day. Do whatever keeps you motivated.

4. Fold the colored strips of paper in half. Add them to the jar. Pull out one or a few pieces of paper every time you are ready to workout.

How do you like to encourage yourself to workout?
