How to Open a Second Etsy Shop

Do you have an Etsy shop?

I have had my Etsy shop, Move the Needle, open since 2008. I decided to open a second shop under my name, Anna Leehey, to sell digital products and services.

Why open a second shop? These are some reasons that you may want to have more than one shop:

You have a different product to sell.

Your shop should have consistency in the type of items you sell and their style. Items can vary in a shop, but if you have a product that doesn't fit at all with your current shop, it may be a good idea to open a second shop.  For example, you may sell handmade bows in one shop and prints of your photography in a second shop.

You want to expand your brand.

It can also be a good idea to open another shop to expand on your current shop that is doing well. You might sell planners in one shop and planner stickers is another shop. Sometimes, having two shops can make things less confusing for shoppers.

You have too many items.

You may have used up all your listings in your current shop and used all your sections available. A second shop gives you more listings and you can create new names for sections.

You current shop isn't working.

If your business isn't doing well, starting fresh is a good idea. You might want to try something different. Maybe this second shop will have a completely different name than your current shop and the products you sell.

The way you run your second Etsy shop should use the same advice and tips you use in your current shops. Here are some additional tips:
  • When you name your shop, you can decide whether to keep your name similar or different. Similar names are good for helping viewers remember your brand. Try adding an additional word after your current brand name or using a name with word play that plays off your current name. A completely different name can help keep you anonymous.
  • Keep organization for your second shop separate from your current shop. Register with a different email and keep documents in its own folder.
  • Keep it simple. Start by listing 10 items and then build on the shop once you start getting likes and making sales.
  • Promote your second shop. You may make separate social media accounts or a blog for your second shop.
  • If you want to help promote your shop, include links to your other shop in both shop profiles. Include links to both your shops when creating general profiles on other sites.
